In this guide, I’ll show you how to create a KDP-ready book cover using Canva, step-by-step — completely free.

🛠️ What You Need Before You Start:

Before you dive into Canva, make sure you have:

  1. Your book's trim size (e.g., 6x9 in, 5.5x8.5 in)
  2. The number of interior pages
  3. Whether your book has bleed or no bleed
  4. The KDP Cover Template (download from KDP Cover Calculator)

📐 Step 1: Download Your KDP Cover Template

Go to Amazon’s Cover Calculator, enter your trim size, page count, paper color, and binding.

Click “Download Cover Template” — it will give you a .png and .pdf file showing your exact cover dimensions, including spine and bleed area.

🎨 Step 2: Open Canva and Set Custom Size

Go to Canva.com
Click "Create a Design" → "Custom Size"

Enter your full cover size in inches, including front, back, and spine.

👉 Example: For a 6x9 book with 100 pages, your cover might need to be 12.52 x 9.25 in
